Exercising your mind is one of the best ways to keep your mind sharp. Whenever you read a book, visualize in your mind what you are reading. Bring each detail into focus so that you get the full effect of what you are reading. When you finish reading the book, you will be able to remember what you read by visualizing it.
I read a lot of books, but the ones I remember the most are the ones that I pictured in my mind. I have read a lot of books where I just read the words but didn’t take the time to visualize them. I couldn’t remember much of what I had read.
Playing board games and playing card games are also great ways to keep your mind sharp. It is also a very good way to interact with others.
I like doing Word Search Puzzles. Crossword Puzzles and Sudoku are also excellent ways to exercise your mind.
Reading the newspaper, whether in hand or on the Internet and talking with someone about what you read helps you remember it.
Other ways to keep your mind sharp are by taking care of your body. Ways to do that are, reducing stress, lowering High Blood Pressure levels, lowering Cholesterol and Triglycerides, controlling Diabetes, exercising regularly or walking with friends, and engaging in social and intellectually stimulating activities.
All of these ideas are good to do anyway because they lower the risk of other diseases, such as heart disease and stroke. They help maintain and improve overall health and well-being.
It is amazing what face to face social interaction can do for you, NOT sitting in front of the TV. You need the stimulation of face to face contact. Invite a few friends over for an evening or even just a couple. Play some board games or card games. Also, Dominoes and Sequence are good games.
Go to a Senior Citizens meal or activity. You will be amazed by how many people enjoy the interaction they get there.
Reading books to your children or grandchildren is a good social interaction.
You will be amazed at how good the interaction makes you feel. Give it a try. What have you got to lose?
